African Polar Express!

We were in Johannesburg, South Africa,  for 10 days. While we were there we had many experiences with other senior couples and other members of the church.
It was wonderful. We met so many new people as there are  many couples in Johannesburg serving missions of all kinds.
We went to doctors, China Mart,  The Distribution Warehouse for the area, The Area Office several times, Church, The greatest Orphanage, The Mall, The last Devotional for the year, 2 Senior Couple farewells and heard some uplifting messages in English. We were able to hear the Area President Speak a couple of times and have Christmas Dinner with the couples and the Area Presidency.
Elder Cook's daughter was there also and she had just been serving in the same mission as Steven Beatty. That was fun.
We had a great Visit with our Area Manager,Thabo, who is a great members there in South Africa.
We really did get a lot of work done by being there even though we were kind of just waiting around.
But what we did that the kids will like is ride on the African Polar Express.

Many of the couples got on Board as we rode the Old African Steam Engine Express to a little town a distance away from Johannesburg. It was a pretty ride and we had a fun time being with the other couples who are also missing their kids and the snow.
We ate a nice lunch at the top and walked around the town.
Often times you find  things in Africa that used to be in the U.S.. It could even have belonged to you once. It could be a shirt, a sweater, a picture you never know.
Well as John and I were walking around I found my old Volks-Wagon Bug.

Yep! Right here in South Africa.

Funny how things happen.

  1. Merry Christmas John and Donna! As we filled out Christmas cards the other night Calvin said, "Well, I guess we don't send one to John and Donna this year do we?" (We don't have your address, but if you did get one, it would say, "Thanks for your friendship and love. We're so proud of you and the work you're doing in Africa. Much love."

We have both loved following your blog. I can't wait for Calvin to see that you found your old bug.
