Kurt and Burt |
Ansley loves to rock climb |
One morning early....like 3 a.m. I woke up. I was 9 3/4 months pregnant and thinking I was just going to live with this baby inside of me forever.
We had a ward party the night before, we were fairly new in Highland and I was so tired of everyone asking me when I was going to have that baby.
Well it wasn't the baby that woke me up. It was the strong thought I had about my Grandmother Killpack dying on this date a year or two before. So I sat up thinking of her and to my surprise...my water broke and I was off to the hospital.
By 6 a.m. we had a new (huge) baby boy. He weighed in at 9lbs. 5 oz and the rest were 7.5 or less. I stayed in the hospital with him for 6 hours and so I was home at 12 noon. It was all we could afford at the time.
We were both so healthy and strong. Baby and mother that is.
Grandpa, Ansley And Tate on Burt. with Kurt. |
He was a delight since the day he was born. He was soCute with blond curls and big and happy and he loved to eat. When he was just nursing only I would set his carrier on the kitchen Counter, as it was a huge counter, and the others sat all around him. When he smelled their food he would kick his feet so hard because he wanted to eat what they were eating but he was too young to eat it. So i started grinding up food in the baby food grinder pretty early for him.
Oh! His Name? Kurt.
After No one in particular. We liked that it sounded like a strong German name. His middle name was Casey so we could call him K.C. which we never did but all the boys have the same middle initial ....if that means anything. What funny things us parents do.
Kurt Casey loved all the other kids. When he was playing you knew he was there because he had this High Pitched SCREAM!
Oh! He sounded like a girl. (I am glad he is finally getting to hear what that sounded like.)
He just was fun and busy and loved to fight physically with his brother John.
He loved animals from the time he was small. We always thought he would grow to be a veterinarian. Then one day the scouts went to visit a veterinarian in American Fork. I think it was Dr. Roper. Kurt did not like that. I think He and Josh watched the doctor do an operation or something and that was the end of that. He still loved animals though.
I will never forget when Baruka died. I thought he would die.
If you want to hear the greatest dog story of all you Must ask Kurt about the Year he thought he was getting a puppy.. But you have to bring enough Kleenex....for you and Kurt. (He did eventually get a puppy but not at that time.)
I love this boy ....because of his goodness and tenderness.
Kurt, Kelli and Ansley . |
I remember sitting in the theater with him during the Todd and Copper movie. I can not remember the name of it right now but I should have known from trying to have him watch Old Yeller he would never make it through. When he was watching Old Yeller I remember him turning around and just face planting the couch in tears.
Oh,I have the cutest kids and now the best children in the world.
Kurt was my first and only one to stick something up his nose so far we had to go to Dr. Freestone to have it removed. He smelled so badly we could not figure out why. He would bath repeatedly and no change. Then one day visiting with Luella Day she commented that one of her's (I won't say which one) stuck a piece of material up his nose and he smelled so badly from it. They had to have it removed by a doctor. So I went to Dr freestone and sure enough Kurt stuck a piece of foam, from the old Aquamarine colored couch from the Las Vegas house,up his nose. Even Dr. Freestone Cringed when he took it out.
So many times Kurt disappeared and he would be found in the pasture
talking to Colt or in the horse feeding trough. We would find him just out
with the animals. He felt so comfortable where another child would feel
scared around them. I will never forget when he painted Billy T Goat Blue. Funny because he loved his goats. That is another touching story.
One thing Kurt could not do is lie very well. Because
he would get this big smile on his face and blow everything. He has such
a great, loving smile that
melts your heart. I remember Susan Brodine commenting on this smile when she would see him at the M.T.C. She was sure the people in Russia needed to see that loving smile.
Burt wants to play FARKLE! |
Burt Nosing in on Mandy and Kurt. |
I remember when he would bring all his friends over to help us kill and pluck the turkeys. Those were fun days.
Camping has been his 2nd now 3rd love (Chamaine being the first). The outdoors. He can survive in the outdoors. That is important! He had such great men to teach him all the skills he needed.
He still loves to Camp and is busy teaching this to his girls and
Chamaine. Oh Chamaine! She is such a good sport. And now it is his turn to teach other boys those skills...and he is doing that.
Kurt is such a hard worker and so willing to serve others. I will never forget his first job with Malon Peck. What a blessing that was to Kurt but a real stink of a job for the rest of us. He loved it and He learned so much. He has had many good employees teach him to work hard and do an honest days work for an honest days pay.
Kurt, Burt and Ansley eat carrots. |
Kurt loved to go with me to Carl Day's to pick tomatoes. He was such a good sport and loved to get the cantaloupe from Brother Day.
He
loved living in Highland. He loved the farm feeling, the pigs, the
lambs, the chickens, horses, mules, turkey's and the goats. He loved the open fields to play in .He loved the
night games, Easter egg hunts, irrigation water, basketball at night on
the driveways and ice skating on the frozen Murdock Canal and throwing slog balls at passing cars?
Kurt and Burt and Ansley |
Kurt looks so much like his grandpa Killpack and other Killpack relatives and ancestors and perhaps that is why his birthday is associated with a date related to his great grandmother Killpack. He was also born on the day the ground was broken for the Manti Temple.
Ansley and Noisy Burt calling for Grandpa! |
Kurt continues to show his tenderness in his love for his sweet wife, his 3 beautiful little girls, his brothers and sisters and all his nieces and nephews.
He loves people and helping and serving them.
I loved when Kurt would come home from school and call out "MOM!" when I asked what he wanted he would tell me he just needed to know I was there. I hope he will always be able to make it possible for Chamaine to be there for her children.
He Loves his Wife and Children and works hard take such good care of them and Have fun with them.
He Loves his family Both the Whaley's and the Wollenzien's!
He takes good care of and honors his Parents!
He Loves the Temple!
He Loves The Lord Jesus Christ And Serves Him!
What more could you want in a son?
Well if you know Kurt there is all this and much much more.
We love you Kurt!!!!! Very Very Much!
